KATY JUNIOR ACTING ACADEMY
JUNIOR ACTING ACADEMY
Our classes are designed to build confidence in our students' ability to think and express their own ideas and apply the skills we teach to their lives overall. Our students are guided to step out of their comfort zones as they learn about telling stories, understanding perception of human nature and communication, and how to produce from a creative perspective. We engage all the senses in how we present ourselves verbally and physically, so that what we say and do takes on a more meaningful understanding. We nurture critical thinking skills and activities in every class and prepare our students for leadership through confidence, empathy and authenticity. Each class, we will engage in carefully created lessons that include physical activity with games, which give students an awareness of their body language and expression. We learn about inflection, tone, projection and how to engage an audience with our spoken word. We build teamwork skills, through an understanding that we are all different and unique. In class we are energetic, sometimes loud, and self-expression is encouraged. We aim to teach each student how to use their own personalities and energy to become dynamic speakers, and engaging and charismatic people. Acting lessons are about life and are not just for the stage. Our students grow over time and have terrific awareness of themselves and others, how we think, feel and make choices and decisions. We have had successes in our students taking the skills they learn in our Acting academy and theater programs into their academic achievements, and confident self-representation in competitive programs. We enhance their critical thinking and problem solving skills and build excellent communicators.
Our new season of classes will focus on different skill sets that offer practice in individual abilities, techniques and skills, through our monologue class. This is not just about memorization, this is about finding individualism and authenticity in presenting.
Our second session will focus on dialogue, creating an environment where students will practice listening and reacting appropriately in different situations and scenes. This will be achieved with scripted dialogue taken from plays and original scene work.
We utilize games, and written and artistic projects within our class curriculum. This is all geared to self-expression and individual interpretation of a suggested topic. It is beneficial for young students to build skills in critical thinking and projecting ideas in a team or with a partner.
We will present at the end of each session, with a talk about what we did, what we learned and the end result. Results are based on a student’s readiness and commitment to try new things and to find their voice and comfort in presenting ideas, stories and collaboration with focus and attention to detail.
With the goal of bringing classes that build the whole student, in a nurturing and positive learning environment. We will be offering classes throughout the year at the Enrichminds Katy location, in Acting, Speech, Improv and Story telling. This will help enhance skills for onstage and in life and bring authenticity to communication and speaking projects.
